Leading Democratic Blog Downgrades Angry Edd Houck’s Election Chances to “Toss-Up”

You know things are going bad for the Houck re-election campaign team when you have a liberal blog, The Daily KOS, marking up the Houck-Reeves race as a “toss-up” four-and-a-half months out from election day. Link here. This isn’t the first survey, poll, or pundit to indicate they think Houck’s dynasty is closing fast. The Washington Post called the race “hotly contested” recently, and at least three Democratic Virginia blogs, have hosted polls and surveys that indicated their readers want a change in leadership this election in Virginia’s 17th Senate District.

It’s bad when your own side is writing you off. But a 28-year run is nothing to be ashamed of. Edd has had it real good since the 1980′s, and maintains a stockpile of lobbyists’ election cash to ward off contenders.

The eternal victim, "Angry Edd Houck" may be coming after you next for the blame! Keep an eye out for the baby-blue signs of frustration and anger as his campaign flounders.

Army veteran and small business owner Bryce Reeves, Houck’s only known challenger to date, is certainly the underdog financially but that has not stopped Edd Houck from begging his supporters via email blasts for any amount they can spare.

Houck currently boasts a commanding 4.5:1 lead in on-hand cash as we head into the heavy part of the campaign season. What does he need so much cash for? He has left over marketing materials on hand and free campaign space (next door to struggling rent paying, tax paying, job-creating small businesses we should note.)

Houck has made it a fundraising mission to cry foul at every opportunity including citing this blog as unfairly characterizing his unwavering funding support of Planned Parenthood (the nation’s largest abortion chain), and linking it to the child sex-slave industry (to which it is unmistakably tied to in undercover videos of late.)  Houck goes on at meetings and his transparent “meet-n-greets” (codeword for fundraiser) regularly about how he is “attacked” by the right-wing conspirators, his opponent (not true), the conservative media boogeyman, and of course Republicans— at every moment.

So Edd does what most liberals do to retaliate, he gets ANGRY! But are these crocodile tears aimed at getting support, sympathy and what every liberal loves best: more of other people’s MONEY? You betcha.

Houck has teamed up with a local land developer to get free rent and set up a campaign headquarters on Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania County about a mile from the Reeves HQ. In 28 years of holding the office, Edd has never needed a base of operations. He won year after year without much organization or any ground game. He used lobbyists money to purchase a slew of direct mail and radio ads, and he basically phoned it in. He must be really nervous this year though.

His record of raising taxes at every opportunity and redistributing the wealth of working Virginians to special interest groups and causes may have finally caught up with him. The money is running out as the working families simply don’t produce enough tax income for the appetite of a ever-expanding government payroll. This has left a void in promises versus delivery for Edd Houck and his traditionally supportive groups that he’s taken for granted like teachers and firemen for example.

He hasn’t been able to deliver lately, and teachers are not happy with him. Indeed, firefighters, police/sheriff, farmers and even college students are proactively coming to check out the Reeves campaign offices on a regular basis and voicing their concerns about their current senator. What they appreciate is that they receive straight-talk and not a hollow politician’s-promise. Most leave with a bumper sticker and yard sign. Some are still on the fence, but all have had one positive constituent experience under their belt.

Edd Houck has hired a professional campaign manager all the way from Arkansas to do his heavy lifting. Oddly enough, this campaign manager paid to attend a Reeves fundraiser and stayed all day… either spying to size up the competition, or looking for a future job perhaps. Maybe this is why Angry Edd needs more of your money?

In every election of his in 28 years, Angry Edd has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars *attacking* his opponents by bombarding voters with slick glossy mail ads, normally containing cartoon lampoons of his opponents in the final 3-4 weeks. You heard it here first folks.

Edd cannot survive this election without attacking his opponent mercilessly …an Army veteran, church deacon, former police detective and small business owner.

Edd Houck wants you to know that he is a victim of free speech and the First Amendment, and he needs your money because bloggers are beating him up in cyberspace. And this requires cash to combat apparently, though this entry cost me nothing to share with you.

Statement of Spotsylvania GOP Chairman on the Committee of 500 Forum

While we respect the attempt to bring the public together in a forum, the Committee of 500 gathering Sunday was a disappointment. Our disappointment stems from the presentations, including one espousing the merits of the local government controlling the development process rather than allowing free market economic forces to guide it, while protecting property rights. Another presented the need for the General Assembly to provide more revenues to the local governments or for the local government to find new ways to raise the revenues. Or better put, have the taxpayers pay more in taxes at a local and state level.

We had thought that the statism espoused by the speakers and C-500 Board members was discredited with the failure of the Democratically-controlled Congress and Administration. But this group- many of which actually supported and endorsed Obama, including C-500 Chair Christine Lynch and Chancellor supervisor Hap Connors- has sadly become a proxy for the Spotsylvania Democrats.

While each speaker gave reasons why taxes should go up in perpetuity and government should get ever-larger, the voices of many participants- including many Spotsylvania Republicans- seemed to be dismissed in favor of infringement on property rights, runaway government spending, and the seeming “fairfaxization” of Spotsylvania. Even more disappointing was how out of touch some in the room were as to the main challenge of the time- jobs and economic development.

There was no better example of this than the list of groups that were not invited to the narrow echo-chamber. Where were the Spotsylvania Landowners’ Assocation? Where was the local Farm Bureau? Where was the local Chamber of Commerce? In fact, those with the greatest stake in the local private economy and on the front lines in job creation were never even notified of this forum, let alone invited to it.

The Spotsylvania Republicans will continue to focus on economic development by seeking industries that would add to the employment base to the county and offer current residents the opportunity to work locally. We will resist the growth of taxes and government as the priorities that we believe most Spotsylvanians share with us.

When Republicans Beat Their Drum, Our Nation Will Be Saved

“When Republicans Beat Their Drum, Our Nation Will Be Saved”
By Terry T. Beatley
March 7, 2011

An older black pastor recently asked me, “Why don’t Republicans beat their own drum? How come they can’t get their message into the black community?”  In other words, how can we teach the principles of freedom to the very people who have suffered the most under the consequences of Democrat Party progressivism- the black American family?  How can conservative Republicans take back our country from the liberal left?  How can we once again experience landslide victories with leaders as principled as Ronald Reagan before we morph into a communist Corinth?

This is the answer.  Proliferating the truth about Planned Parenthood’s federally funded black genocide agenda opens the doors to teach about black American Republican political history that’s been removed from textbooks and the annals of history.  In so doing, we will save lives, liberty, heal the racial divide and cripple the Democrat Party.  Making a gigantic leap toward breaking generational government dependence and poverty, the Republican Party will restore dignity, justice and righteousness to a country that calls good evil and evil good.  Investing the time, sharing the information and forging relationships to prove that we care will dismantle the minority stronghold of the Democrat Party and as votes transfer to fiscally and socially conservative Republicans, our nation will be saved from the advancing socialists’ agenda.

If Matthew Fontaine Maury, Pathfinder of the Sea, was still of alive, he would probably tell us the answer to our Republican “marketing-the-message” dilemna is in Scripture.  In the 1800’s, Psalm 8 revealed to him that there were paths in the seas. Pursuing this promise, he discovered ocean currents.  Consequently, he shrunk the world, expanded economies, sped up travel and the distribution of goods and services, as well as, helped prove to future generations that God’s word provides answers.

Could it provide the answers we need to solve our Republican marketing-the-message dilemma? God clearly states in Hosea 4:6 that “My people perish for lack of knowledge.”   I question what would happen if the majority of the minorities learned about the seventy years of missing black Republican political history.  Speaking of perishing, 40% of African American babies are aborted- 60% in New York City and with statistics like these, the most dangerous place for a black person to be is in his mother’s womb. This tragedy is not by accident, but is the result of federally funded social policy agendas of Secular Humanists and Marxists…in other words, worldviews that make killing people incredibly justifiable; worldviews that collide with the Judeo/Christian worldview of our Founders.  It’s the agenda of federally funded Planned Parenthood…modern day Klu Klux Klan. So what happens when we love our neighbor enough to expose this evil? (Ephesians 5:11)

It bears tremendous fruit.  After I shared with the first black minister, he stated, “I will never vote for a pro-choice candidate again.” Now that the door was opened to talk politics and after disclosing the facts about black Republican history, he shared with the Virginia Speaker of the House, Bill Howell, that he had “to repent for voting for the wrong political party all of his life. He just didn’t know.”  Another pastor confessed to “having to repent for removing herself from government for twenty years.” (translated: only voting for Democrat candidates) Black Americans respond when we reach out in love, friendship and truth, not political short-term gimmicks.  It’s about relationships and honesty.  My experience from working with downtown Richmond, Virginia inner-city pastors to rural area pastors and congregations, they so appreciate the information and many are willing to align their votes with their values.  Anything less is a vote to annihilate their race and hinder liberty.

So if saving lives and liberty is the sincere motivation of proliferating truth to minorities, conservative Republicans can dismantle and cripple the Democrat Party one drum beat at a time. No tomahawks required. The United States of America will experience a providential victory: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Psalm 33:12
Republicans, let the drum roll begin from sea to shining sea.

If you’re a resident of, or closely tied to, the City of Fredericksburg or Counties of Spotsylvania, Stafford, Fauquier, Orange, Culpeper, Louisa, Madison, King George, or Caroline; I’d like to hear from you!

Our country is at a crossroads in its development. We see this unfolding every day in the news. But so is our Commonwealth and our counties. Some see opportunity, some see a revolution, some see a social powder keg… we all have different perspectives, right?

We have a certain number of us bloggers and op-ed writers out there who chime in on subjects we know about, or often comment on ones we know little about, but we need a larger voice to be heard above the din on the mainstream media. Fortunately, citizen-journalism is riding a HUGE wave up while newspapers and TV stations are little more than print and video versions of popular blogs these days.

Original Blog Readers

Long gone is era of in-depth news coverage and deeply dug out secrets and scandals that are first heard of on a 5am newspaper or “breaking news” TV interruption. Today, we can get our information (not usually “news” but it could be) from blogs, Twitter feeds, or Facebook, faster than we can in any other manner. Today is also a crossroads for news and information. Are you interested in plugging in to this somehow?

If you’re remotely interested in politics, government, or our area’s direction as a community; chances are you’ve read the paper, a blog or two and formed an opinion that you later voiced to someone else— right? Instead of just telling one person, why not do it here on Rappahannock Republic once in a while? It’s free, it’s easy, and it’s read by a couple of thousand people each day!

You need not be an expert, journalist major, or commit to a frequency… just an interested fellow citizen (on EITHER SIDE OF THE FENCE) with an opinion on a current event or subject matter that is in the realm of politics or our region.  Yes, previously-muzzled Free Lance-Star writers are welcome here too and yes, you can use a pen-name if you’d like to.

Area Republican Delegate Calls for Virginia Ban on Red-Light Cameras

NBC Washington is reporting that some Virginia lawmakers want to turn off the red light. A bill in the Virginia House of Delegates could prevent cities from installing new red-light cameras across the commonwealth, reports the Washington Examiner.

Del. Scott Lingamfelter (R-Woodbridge) introduced the bill, which would ban any new cameras from being installed after July 1.

Lingamfelter has been an opponent of red-light cameras, saying that while they encourage safety, they also invade drivers’ privacy.

But according to the Examiner, the bill is receiving some strong opposition from a big-name travel organization. AAA Mid-Atlantic says the Virginia red-light system is well-run and doesn’t get many complaints, compared to D.C. and Montgomery County, Md.

“We’ve not had complaints from our members indicating that they think the [Virginia] program is abusive or that they think they got caught or clapped or anything like that unfairly,” AAA’s Lon Anderson told the Examiner. “The fact is that red-light cameras, when properly used, can be a great adjunct to police enforcement.”

At the same time, AAA doesn’t want things to go in the opposite direction, where municipalities put up unlimited amounts of red-light cameras. The Examiner reports that Virginia’s Senate has already approved a bill that would allow localities to install red-light cameras more quickly and without the approval of the Department of Transportation.

AAA says that will encourage municipalities to put up the cameras for the wrong reasons. “Every level of review that you can build into this is another level of protection [and] that local jurisdictions aren’t going to be abusing this privilege of supplementing their policing with automated enforcement,” Anderson told the Examiner. “I think VDOT’s review is important.”

Actual Cost of Obama’s Health Care

Fortunately for now, it’s looking good for Virginia’s lawsuit against the federal government that will exempt our citizens from being FORCED to pay for healthcare coverage that they may not want, or be subjected to a hefty fine.

Here’s the details of the bill’s effects on Joe and Jane American … as broken down by Americans for Tax Reform 1/14/2011:

Comprehensive List of Tax Hikes in Obamacare

Health care law contains over twenty new or higher taxes!

WASHINGTON, DC— Next week, the U.S. House of Representatives will be voting on an historic repeal of the Obamacare law. While there are many reasons to oppose this flawed government health insurance law, it is important to remember that Obamacare is also one of the largest tax increases in American history. Below is a comprehensive list of the two dozen new or higher taxes that pay for Obamcare’s expansion of government spending and interference between doctors and patients.

Individual Mandate Excise Tax (Jan 2014): Starting in 2014, anyone not buying “qualifying” health insurance must pay an income surtax according to the higher of the following

                 1 Adult            2 Adults              3+ Adults
2014   1% AGI/$95   1% AGI/$190   1% AGI/$285
2015   2% AGI/$325   2% AGI/$650   2% AGI/$975
2016   + 2.5% AGI/$695   2.5% AGI/$1390   2.5% AGI/$2085

Exemptions for religious objectors, undocumented immigrants, prisoners, those earning less than the poverty line, members of Indian tribes, and hardship cases (determined by HHS) Employer Mandate Tax (Jan 2014): If an employer does not offer health coverage, and at least one employee qualifies for a health tax credit, the employer must pay an additional non-deductible tax of $2000 for all full-time employees. This provision applies to all employers with 50 or more employees. If any employee actually receives coverage through the exchange, the penalty on the employer for that employee rises to $3000. If the employer requires a waiting period to enroll in coverage of 30-60 days, there is a $400 tax per employee ($600 if the period is 60 days or longer).

I’m Proud to Help Retire Liberal Sen. Edd Houck(D-VA-17) He’s No Friend to Conservatives!

Liberal Senator Edd Houck (D-VA-17)How is it that a man can rise to the top of the Virginia Senate over a CAREER in one seat that spans back to the early 1980′s, vote for as many as THIRTEEN tax increases in ONE DAY, and goes unnoticed?

…WE THE PEOPLE let him get away with it…

  • When he campaigned hard for Obama, we didn’t to speak up, fair enough, they’re both of the same agenda.
  • When he stood tall with Tim Kaine as he became chair of the DNC, we watched idly.
  • When he voted to fund abortions in Virginia under a healthcare bill, we ignored it.
  • When he publicly stated he supports the unconstitutional Obamacare, we tolerated it.
  • When he voted to impose more gas taxes to fund VDOT when he knew there was $1.4 BILLION dollars found lying around, we shrugged.
  • Now he’s putting out 4 page newspaper tabloids and giving speeches repeatedly calling himself “A CONSERVATIVE”.

Edd Houck is anything BUT a conservative whether socially, personally, politically, or fiscally.

He’s a LIBERAL through and through.

The 17th Virginia Senate District comprises some or all of the following areas: City of Fredericksburg, Counties of Spotsylvania, Orange, Culpeper, Madison and Louisa. If you know anyone who votes in this area, you have to help educate them about the DANGEROUS LIBERAL in their state leadership. His 26-year-long voting record will be all it takes to convince someone of this truth, but it takes a little bit of research and a little bit of energy to make your point.

That’s what I’m asking you to do, please invest a little bit of your time and energy to help save Virginia and tip the often 20-20 partisan voting stagnation of the Virginia Senate.

Remember, every state senator votes on laws and policies that affect EVERY VIRGINIAN. This isn’t only a 17th District problem, if you’re a Virginian, Edd Houck is YOUR problem too.

I’m proud to be a part of retiring and defeating liberal VA Senator Edd Houck (Dem-17th) on November 8, 2011!
